Elizabeth Rose Buser, lovingly known as Betty, passed away on July 10, 2026, at the age of 95. She devoted her life to her family and leaves behind generations shaped by her love and steady presence. Betty was born on March 13, 1931, in Port Washington, Wisconsin, to August and Katherine (née Thoma) Begusch. She graduated from Port Washington High School and, two days later, married Emmett Buser on June 11, 1949. Their union brought together an ideal combination of her youth and optimism and his energy and rough-cut charm. Together they built their home in the countryside outside Port, where they raised their eight children. Betty often said summer was her favorite season because it meant all her children were home from school. As the family grew, weekends and summer days often brought cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends to the house for swimming get-togethers, followed by huge cook-outs and evenings of Sheepshead and Manhattans. Betty and Emmett's home was always the place where everyone felt welcome and wanted to be. As a stay-at-home mother, Betty devoted herself to caring for her family. Her children remember coming home from school to the aroma of home-cooked meals, and no family gathering was complete without something she had baked. Her hand with yeast dough was legendary—from fresh bread and rolls to cinnamon rolls and frosted butterhorns—and those recipes, along with the memories they created, became one of the many ways she showed her love. In her forties, she and Emmett followed a new adventure when Emmett's work took the family to Wales, UK. There, they made the most of their time, traveling throughout Europe, discovering people and places that would forever—and positively—change their view of the world. When Emmett passed away in 1989, she carried on, making many changes of residence, taking on new roles in the family, and getting her driver’s license at the age of 70! Her talents were boundless, and her interests varied. Over the years, she enjoyed creating ceramics, working at beading, gardening, and making handmade cards, but crocheting became her true passion. Hundreds of newborns were welcomed into the world wrapped in blankets Betty lovingly made, and her family will continue to find comfort beneath the dozens upon dozens of afghans she crocheted. She was also a true animal lover, having had dogs and cats throughout her entire life, most recently her beloved dog Bella. It is with heavy hearts that Betty's children—Bill Buser (Dorothy), Kathryn Gavel, Ken Buser (Carol), Jean Hinds (Ferrell), Nancy Holden, Joe Buser (Tammie), and Gerry Buser (Paula)—together with her nearly 50 grandchildren and great-grandchildren, say goodbye to their beloved mother and grandmother. Betty is preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Emmett Buser. She is also preceded in death by her parents, Kathrine and August; her sisters, Sister Mary Benet and Ruth Schowalter; and numerous brothers and sisters-in-law. She is further preceded in death by her daughter, Carol Lynn Buser, and son-in-law, Larry Gavel. Following Betty’s wishes, she will be placed beside Emmett at Rest Haven Memorial Park in Russellville, Arkansas.
