The story of
Betty Joyce David passed away at the age of 89 on the evening of February 4, 2024, in Highland, California. Born on April 17, 1934, in Howell, Michigan, to LaVerne and Lauretta Richmond, she was a longtime resident of Bakersfield, California, for over 60 years. In 1950, Betty's family relocated to Oakdale, California, where she embraced her love for music by playing the flute in her high school band. Her passions included sewing, cooking, canning, and working with horses on the farm. Known for her creativity, Betty took great joy in decorating, particularly during the holiday seasons. Her faith was an integral part of her life, actively participating in church activities. Throughout her later years, Betty found pleasure in reading books on her Kindle, engaging with friends, and cherishing moments with her family, who were her world. Betty was predeceased by her loving husband, Clyde C. David; her parents, LaVerne and Lauretta Richmond; and her siblings, Vernetta Butler, Ray Richmond, and Charles Richmond. She leaves behind a legacy through her sister, Linda Jungquist; her daughter, Jan David Thomas, and son-in-law, Mark Thomas; her granddaughters, Jessica Thomas Tandy and Nicole Thomas Alvarado; her great-grandchildren, Ava and Jack Alvarado, and Sawyer and Emerson Tandy; her daughter, Joni David; her grandson, Jeremy Dingman; and her great-grandchildren, Brooke and Shane Dingman. Betty also leaves behind many cousins, nephews, and nieces. A private memorial service will be held for the family. Additionally, a graveside service will take place at Greenlawn Mortuary on River Boulevard in Bakersfield at a later date.
