The story of Bernard
Bernard "Bernie" Wayne Holzer left us to be with the Lord, surrounded by his family on the afternoon of June 5, 2023. He was born December 1, 1941, in Fruita, Colorado to Elsie Leota and Simon LaVerne Holzer. Bernie was the youngest of five and grew up in Grand Junction, CO. While attending high school, he worked at the City Market Grocery store. He was also very active in his church youth group, where he met his wife Janet. They married shortly after he graduated from Grand Junction High School, in 1960. He worked at several different warehouses in the area. He often spoke about wearing roller skates to get around more efficiently. What started as vacationing with family, ended with a move to Arizona in 1970. Bernie worked for Amfac Electric Supply as an electrical salesman. He continued to work in electrical sales, retiring in 2021. He was a member of Grace Bible Church, where ushered for many years. He had a great group of loving friends at church, and they had a standing dinner date every Friday. Bernie loved to camp! He camped all over Arizona and drove his 5th-wheel trailer up and down the West Coast. Two years ago he purchased a small property in Show Low, AZ. This was another area that he and Janet had visited regularly. He would fish, watch for wildlife and enjoy the beautiful scenery. He also felt at home with the small church he attended in Show Low. Bernie is preceded in death by his wife Janet, son Brian, his parents, and three of his siblings. He is survived by his daughters and their spouses: Sheila and Paul VanHofwegen, and Paula and Jim Kelly. He was a proud Grandpa to eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Along with many cousins, nephews, and nieces. His celebration of life service will be held at Grace Bible Church, on June 29th at 2 pm. Address: 19280 N 99th Ave Sun City, AZ 85373. Donations can be made to the Desert Pines Baptist Association and sent in c/o Jim Hayes, Venture In #270 N Clark Rd #253 Show Low, AZ 85901.
