By the time all educational programs for disabled children were incorporated into the Colorado Department of Education and Barbara became an employee of Boulder Valley School District (BVSD) in 1977, she had earned her Master's Degree in Special Education at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley. She continued to teach adaptive PE to disabled students in Boulder Valley. Barbara completed her 25-year BVSD teaching career as a PE instructor at Martin Park Creekside Elementary and retired in 2001. Because of her enduring love for animals of all kinds, Barbara then became a faithful volunteer at Boulder Valley Humane Society Veterinary Clinic, serving from 2002-2013. until health concerns prevented her from continuing. Barbara coached and trained Special Olympics athletes in Colorado beginning in 1972 and throughout her career. She served as Boulder County Area Coordinator for Special Olympics from 1972-1983 and was also a member of the State Board of Colorado Special Olympics. While serving in both capacities, she attended many international Special Olympics competitions. For her selfless contributions to the Special Olympics, Barbara was inducted in 1988 into the Colorado Special Olympics Hall of Fame by Eunice Kennedy Shriver, President of Special Olympics International. Barbara loved animals, traveling, a variety of sports, playing Bridge, her family and many friends. She is survived by her nephews Joseph Montague "JM" Landsberg and family of College Station, Texas and Randall Howard "Randy" Landsberg and family of Chicago, Illinois.
