Barbara (Joann) Conder Franklin was born on May 14, 1933, in Las Animas, Colorado and passed away on February 25, 2026, in Golden, Colorado.
Joann’s life sparkled with her independence, creativity, and loving connections with family and friends. Joann remained remarkably independent well into her 90s. She continued to garden with great passion. Her gardening reflected her fundamental characteristics: patience, tenderness, and love of beauty.
Music was another of Joann’s enduring passions. She performed well into her 80s, appearing in solos and duets with the Heritage Singers. Joann sang for audiences, for friends, for family and for strangers. Her profound faith was wrapped in music, and she shared it with all.
Joann worked as a fashion model during the mid-1960s and early 1970s. She loved fashion and fashion loved her right back. She became a popular store model for Neusteter's during that same period, bringing grace, flair and unique showmanship to her work.
Joann’s husband, Jesse Franklin, and her son, Joe Franklin predeceased her. She is survived by her two daughters and their spouses: Tammi Jean Franklin and Elizabeth Tyree of Boerne, Texas, and Patricia Ann Markham and Joe Markham of Golden, Colorado. Joann’s life was filled with joy and light by her seven grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.
She will be remembered for deep convictions, her independence, her love of music, and the limitless kindness she poured into the lives of all who knew her.
