Barbara Ann Menzie, of Westford, MA, passed away peacefully on January 20, 2026 surrounded by her family. She was diagnosed four weeks prior with advanced pancreatic cancer while visiting her children and grandchildren in Colorado. Her family moved swiftly to create a cocoon of love in their Colorado homes to support her end of life care.
Born in Brooklyn, NY and raised on Long Island, Barbara was the beloved daughter of Donald and Joan Reis and the oldest of five children; Barbara, Maureen, Donald, Bill, and Tim. Barbara attended the Academy of St. Joseph in Brentwood, NY, Elizabeth Seton College in Yonkers, NY, and earned her M.A. in Education at the University of Massachusetts in Lowell, MA. She devoted her life to caring for others, first as a respiratory therapist and pediatric nurse and later as an elementary school teacher at Franco-American School in Lowell, MA and Abbott Elementary in Westford, MA.
Barbara was known for her beautiful smile, quick humor, and love of ice cream. Most of all she was known for her rare ability to make anyone she met feel truly seen, heard, and supported. This gift led to friendships that spanned decades and deepened through every season of life.
Barbara (aka “Bobbie”) is survived by her children Kevin and Heather, children-in-law Kristin and Dave, and grandchildren Ella, Claire, and Henry who carry forward her kindness, warmth, and deep care for others.
Barbara will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her. She has left an imprint of kindness on our hearts. Some ways to celebrate Bobbie include gathering with loved ones to enjoy a hot cup of coffee at Kimballs Farm, enjoying a scoop of chocolate chip ice cream at Sully’s, and walking the beaches of Martha’s Vineyard. A celebration of Barbara’s life will be scheduled for the summer when lob-stah rolls and ice cream taste the best. The family invites you to make donations to be made in Barbara’s name to St. Jude, where Barbara made monthly contributions to support the research and care for all children facing life threatening diseases.
