The story of
Didier lived a very full life. Born in Paris, during the German occupation on February 25, 1944, he grew up and lived in the city of lights until he moved to America in 1977. He attended business school and, on a study, abroad to London to learn English, he met his wife, Eva-Maria, at the age of 19. He then briefly attended officer school in Verdun. He soon married and became a husband and father at 20 and with two children by 22. He was quickly inducted into the family business, Graphoplex, at the time a leader in drafting design tools. There he became the Managing Director at 25 and developed several patents on improving drafting pens and other tools. The business took him and his wife on many trips to America, where he increasingly felt at home and by the early 1970’s he and his wife decided to make the leap as soon as their paperwork and visas were in order. By 1977, he had sold the business and the real estate in France and moved his family to Scottsdale, Arizona to begin our American adventure. His wife, Eva-Maria, had begun a professional career in cosmetology while in Paris and together with Didier they initially opened a salon and developed a brand which occupied them until retirement. He vacationed regularly in Hawaii and Mexico, with an occasional visit to Europe. He also frequently visited the Seattle area, where Didier always doted on his three Grandchildren. He enjoyed conversations about historical events and liked to contrast many against today’s events. He was very kind and ahead of his time about openness and acceptance to all people. He was honest to no grays in his mind; truth was important to him. He was passionate about classical music, soccer, and art. He looked forward every 4 years to watching the world cup soccer matches. His teams were Brazil and France. And of all the food groups, he loved soup and tried to have it at every meal. He was very good at tennis, ping pong, fencing, and soccer. In his early forties, Didier was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease, which accelerated his aging. Yet, he pushed forward and the older he got, the more he fought on to make additional trips to see his grandchildren or to attend various activities. In the last 2 months, he turned 80 and was a full participant on his birthday and just prior to this he had attended a show at a theater with family. Didier Ernotte was born in Paris, France, on February 25, 1944. Didier Ernotte is survived by his wife after almost 61 years of marriage, Eva-Maria, and his two sons, Christophe and Olivier. Didier was able to end his resting days at the house he moved into and had lived in since 1977. To many he was a dear friend, a mentor, a husband, and a father.
